PROPRIETARY TECHNOLOGY
SP-Mode® Microsecond Laser Technology
The paradigm shift in how laser energy interacts with living tissue. Sub-threshold precision. Tissue-sparing treatment. Clinically validated.
The Science Behind SP-Mode®
Sub-threshold Pulse Mode: a tissue-sparing approach that delivers therapeutic laser energy without visible damage.
SP-Mode® Microsecond Laser Technology delivers precisely timed microsecond bursts of laser energy that stimulate cellular repair without generating the thermal damage associated with conventional continuous wave lasers. The result is therapeutic treatment below the visible damage threshold.
Each microsecond pulse is precisely calibrated to raise tissue temperature by only 10–15°C (approximately 18–27°F) above baseline, remaining well below the thermal coagulation threshold. Between pulses, thermal relaxation allows the tissue to cool, preventing cumulative heat buildup. This enables clinicians to treat the retinal pigment epithelium while preserving the overlying photoreceptors and neural retina, with no visible burn marks.
How SP-Mode® Works
Microsecond Pulses
Instead of a single continuous wave, SP-Mode® delivers a rapid train of microsecond duration pulses separated by thermal relaxation periods.
Below Damage Threshold
Each microsecond pulse delivers energy below the tissue damage threshold, allowing tissue to cool between pulses. The cumulative therapeutic effect occurs without visible burns.
Cellular Repair Response
Sub-threshold energy stimulates cellular repair mechanisms in the retinal pigment epithelium, trabecular meshwork, and ciliary body epithelium, promoting cytokine release and functional recovery across retinal, glaucoma, and cyclophotocoagulation applications.
Clinical Applications
SP-Mode® expands the treatment window for retinal and glaucoma applications where conventional photocoagulation may present increased risk to surrounding tissue.
Diabetic Macular Edema (DME)
SP-Mode® enables repeatable, tissue-sparing treatment that can reduce the need for anti-VEGF injections.
Central Serous Retinopathy (CSR)
Sub-threshold treatment resolves subretinal fluid without creating visible laser scars.
Retinal Vein Occlusion
Macular edema associated with branch and central vein occlusion responds to SP-Mode® therapy.
Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy
Pattern scanning with SP-Mode® reduces treatment time and improves patient comfort during PRP.
Open-Angle Glaucoma
SP-Mode® Laser Trabeculoplasty (SPLT) lowers IOP while keeping surrounding tissue intact.
Refractory Glaucoma
SP-Mode® provides precise, repeatable cyclophotocoagulation (SP-TSCPC) for refractory glaucoma, lowering IOP while preserving surrounding ocular structures.
