Phacoemulsification

phaco2b.pngPhacoemulsification is the most common type of cataract surgery, in which the internal lens inside the eye is removed. The lens within the cataract is broken up by ultrasound using an ultrasonic hand piece, and aspirated from the eye. The lens is then replaced with an intraocular lens (IOL) implant.
